DUPHAT Conference and Exhibition Concluded Today with More than 10,000 Visitors and Participants

Business Deals Reached AED 550 Million over the Past Three Days

The Dubai International Pharmaceuticals and Technologies Conference and Exhibition concluded today at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. More than 10,000 Visitor and Participants have registered over the past three days, with participants from India, China, Egypt, Bangladesh, Canada, Italy, Germany, the United Sates of America, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, France, Netherlands, Iran and the United Arab Emirates.

Dr. Ali Al Sayed, Director of Pharmaceutical Services Department at the Dubai Health Authority and the conference chairman said “the Dubai Health Authority is keen to support and upgrade the healthcare sector in Dubai. DUPHAT 2011 in its sixteenth edition surpassed all its goals. Its success further highlighted the importance of the pharmaceutical sector as an essential part of the over all medical sector”.

Dr. Ali also stressed the achievements of DUPHAT conference and exhibition for pharmacists, students, companies and researchers, stating that the event had surpassed all expectations. He also referred to the success achieved by the pharmaceutical companies who participated in the exhibition.

Ay the end of the third day, the scientific committee had released the DUPHAT 2011 Conference recommendations:

1)      Ensuring safe drug use in hospital pharmacies and in different health systems by taking proper measures to prevent medication errors in each drug movement and by monitoring drug use through implementation of safety practices and modern technologies and correlating drug awareness with patient safety.

2)      Implementing evidence based pharmacy practices and building strategies in accordance with community and spreading awareness in drug use and disease prevention.

3)      Applying new technologies in prescribing at hospitals dictated by applying new technologies in dispensing and drug handling by pharmacists, all hospitals are encouraged to acquire and train pharmacy staff on those new technologies.

4)      Expanding the pharmacists’ role in therapeutic treatment in healthcare by actively participating in the prevention plans and chronic diseases management in coordination with the patient, the physician and healthcare providers.

5)      Pharmaceutical services are to be provided to all patients under the best conditions through standardization, specialization and accreditation.

6)      Need to focus on availability and quality of pharmaceuticals as new emerging market, shifts in technology, and in costs of production all resulted from economical international factors.

7)      Serious concern on the growing problems of irrational use of medicines and call upon national, regional and global health authorities develop guidelines to establish a well functioning system to promote rational views of medicines.

8)      WHO / FIP and UAE guidelines on good pharmacy practices should be implemented, evaluated and documented by National Health Authorities.

9)      Pharmaceutical companies have to support research and development for innovative drugs and invest more in drugs for tropical diseases.

10)   Adverse reactions happen everywhere, most of them are preventable if proper studies and training are performed.  Care is to be taken in prescribing drugs, dispensing and provision to patients. Adverse events must be early detected, reported and handled scientifically and professionally.

11)  Educate school students through their curricula and special activities about the proper and safe use of medication.

DUPHAT Exhibition

On the sidelines of the exhibition, Eng. Aiman Al Madani, Vice President – Finance and Investment of INDEX Holding said “for the past sixteen years, Index Conferences and Exhibitions Organisation Est. – member of INDEX Holding was keen to present key speakers and major players of the pharmaceutical industry, and this year more than 300 companies made their presence at the exhibition platform showcasing their latest products and innovations.”

Eng. Aiman Al Madani also revealed the amount of the business deals achieved during the three days exhibition which had reached AED 550 Million. This reveals the success of DUPHAT Conference and Exhibition and the leading role of Dubai in organising prestigious conferences and exhibitions with high efficiency in terms of participants and attendees. The majority of exhibitors at DUPHAT 2011 have confirmed booking their space for next year’s show.
