Badr Jafar: looking forward to bringing the Pearl Initiative’s principles of transparency, accountability and corporate social responsibility to the next generation of leaders
Badr Jafar, Executive Director of Crescent Petroleum and Co-Initiator of the Pearl Initiative, has been awarded with the honour of Young Global Leader (YGL) with the World Economic Forum.
Every year, the World Economic Forum recognizes the most exceptional young leaders worldwide as YGL honourees, having been identified among the world’s most outstanding leaders for their professional accomplishments, commitment to society and potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world through inspiring leadership.
Created in 2004 by Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, the YGL aims to: convene a diverse global community of peers;catalyse the next generation of leaders; andpositively impact the global agenda by engaging the community in task forces and work-streams related to specific global challenges. YGLs initiate, develop and drive innovative solutions on important issues including tackling public health issues such as obesity, hunger and malnutrition; restoring the health of the oceans; implementing mass, school-based deworming in developing countries; engaging youth in policy-making; mainstreaming the millennium development goals; raising awareness of the water challenge and inspiring people to take action.
On receiving the honour, Badr Jafar commented,“The Young Global Leaders community is a forum where the leaders of tomorrow can together tackle the significant issues of today. I am honoured to have been selected by The World Economic Forum to join these efforts. A problem shared is a problem halved; applying this idiom to our global challenges provides a wealth of opportunities for greater progress in achieving our common goals, and the YGL community has a significant role to play here.”
