Dubai shows it cares for impoverished children - Local Press Editorial
Dubai Cares should inspire all others ?the haves? to support the ?have nots?; opined a UAE daily.In an editorial written on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of Dubai Cares, Gulf News noted that the philanthropic organisation launched by the Dubai Government five years ago, "has touched the lives of seven million children through its primary education programmes in 28 developing countries".
The organisation has so far built and renovated more than 1,500 schools and classrooms, provided more than 1,000 water wells, constructed 3,000 sanitation facilities, provided nutritious food to more than 490,000 students, helped train 23,000 teachers and distributed more than two million books; added the paper.
When the campaign was launched during Ramadan the month of giving individuals, institutions and Dubai?s business community came out strongly in support of the initiative. Subsequently, Dh3.4 billion was raised, including a personal donation of Dh1.7 billion by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; recalled the paper.
"Dubai Cares is a great example of how a good idea could create a global movement and help change the lives of millions of underprivileged people and raise their hopes for a better life", emphasised the paper.
