Phoenix Medicine have it easy against Tellicherry
Defending champions Phoenix Medicine showed their prowess in the opening game of the 2nd Interface Ramadan Cup 2012 beating Nucaf Tellicherry easily by 49 runs at the ICC Global Academy ground in Dubai.
Phoenix won the toss and opted to bat first, a decision they must have rued as they lost four wickets in a heap and were in a tight spot at four wickets down for 16 runs. Opener Adil Mirza was run out while Sharjeel Khan was bowled by Laxman Sree Kumar. Ali Asad then picked up Haroon Ahmed and Fahad Ansari exhibiting some good controlled swing bowling.
Mashood CTK then dealt a double strike, breaking the partnership and picking up both Qasim and Rohan Mustafa to bring them back into the game. Phoenix finished with 130 runs in 20 setting what seemed a gettable target for Tellicherry.
Tellicherry had a decent start as their openers Shakoor who made 17 runs with three boundaries and Nasir CTK 6, put on 23 runs until Nasir was run-out. Tellicherry’s innings then faltered with wickets tumbling regularly as Phoenix bowlers bowled a tight line and length and were backed up by some smart fielding. Mashood CTK with 14 runs was the only other batsman to get into double figures.
Shoeb Leghari picked up two of the top-order while man of the match Rohan Mustafa rounded off his day bagging three wickets for 11 runs to skittle out Tellicherry for 81 runs in 18 overs to send a strong signal to the other teams.
