Sharjeel century powers Phoenix to easy victory
Sharjeel Khan blasted an unbeaten century as Phoenix Medicine eased past Shah Orakzai to score a thumping nine-wicket victory in the 4th Al Dhaid Ramadan Tournament 2012 played under lights at the Al Dhaid Cricket Village.
Chasing what looked like
a challenging total of 153, Phoenix Medicine’s Sharjeel made mincemeat of the Shah Orakzai bowlers hammering them all over the park.
Batting by choice, Shah Orakzai’s top order batsmen did not taste success except for Nazir Ahmed who hit a 16-ball 17 with two boundaries and Saqlain Haider, who scored a steady 19 off 20 balls.
Losing four wickets for just 53 on board, Shah Orakzai needed a good partnership and that came from Mohammad Ahmed and Sheraz Butt who shared a crucial 55-run stand for the fifth wicket. While Ahmed scored 32 from 24 balls including two fours and a six, Butt hit three sixes and two boundaries during his 22-ball 32. Sayed Bilal (15, 8b, 1x6) and Mohammad Adnan (18 not out, 10b, 1x4, 2x6) fired brief cameos lower the order to help Shah Orakzai finish at a respectable 153 for four in 20 overs.
Ali Afsal was the key bowler for Phoenix Medicine bagging four wickets in his four overs conceding 26 runs while Zulfiqar Baber gave away just 11 runs to take two in his four overs.
The chase under lights was never going to be easy but Sharjeel was in a league of his own scoring 100 not out as Phoenix Medicine went past the target in just 15.5 overs.
