GLAD Arabia crowns new “So you think you can cook?” Chef
30 July 2012 - Dubai, UAE: The simple question “So you think you can cook?” has stirred 20,000 Facebook foodies into action, uniting internet gastronomes to celebrate the goodness of a home cooked meal.
The GLAD Arabia culinary challenge created an online forum for food lovers, culminating in a live cook-off event between six finalists judged by a panel of Dubai’s finest kitchen characters for the right to be crowned the 2012 Chef of GLAD Arabia.
The challenge was judged by a trio of the Emirates finest gourmets, including Chef U-Ve Michel - President of the Emirates Culinary Guild; and Chef Amreesh - Concept Chef at Ushna, Abu Dhabi and Zafran, Dubai. The 2012 GLAD Cooking Challenge consultant chef - Chef Bobby Kapoor, is a food author and Corporate Chef / Head of Food Service at Griffith Laboratories Middle East, with international restaurant and cuisine concepts in countries including Mauritius and Malaysia.
Taking place over three rounds since May 2012, participants were asked to share the personal joy of a favourite feast by uploading a picture of a signature dish to the GLAD Arabia “So you think you can cook?” Facebook gallery. To advance to the next round, the competitive creators of home cooked cuisine had to receive the most Facebook ‘Likes’ by inviting as many family and friends to join in the joy of their lovingly prepared meals. Judges then shortlisted the best based on originality and creativity. Six finalists were then handpicked by the judges to be invited to compete at a live event held at Balance Café in Oasis Center, Dubai.
The Emirate’s finest foodies judged the final six on the taste, aroma, colour, presentation, originality and creativity of their signature dishes, with Lamees Attar Bashi’s Chicken-Breast Bollattines with Mushroom and spinach wrapped with cold meat, winning her the crown of 2012 Chef of GLAD Arabia.
Speaking at the event, Krishna Kumar – Clorox MENA Marketing Manager said: “The GLAD Arabia ‘So you think you can cook?’ competition provides a platform to celebrate the joy of cooking. GLAD plays the role of being ‘the guardian of home food goodness’, and believes the best food is homemade, personally prepared and freshly served to family with love. With its uncompromising quality, GLAD preserves and protects the freshness of delicious home cooked meals, keeping good food good, every step of the way.”
Enhancing the home cooking experience for the winners, prizes included a culinary trip to Thailand, a KitchenAid Stand Mixer, a Philips Air Fryer and finally vouchers to buy kitchen utensils. GLAD Arabia “So you think you can cook?” winners were First runner up -Leonard Lobo, Second runner up - Rhodalyn de Leon, and finalists CK Chandrakiran Guntur, Ruth Ramos Navarro and Sini Shiyas.
