Magrao joins Dubai FC
Former Al Wahda player Magrao has joined the ranks of Dubai FC for the new season. The defensive midfielder was handed a one-year contract by the club. The club declined to reveal the financial details of the contract.
The 33-year-old revealed that he had received three offers including Al Ahli but he opted to join Dubai FC. In fact, Magrao spoke to Al Ahli club Abdullah SaeedAl Naboodah a couple of times. Abdullah Saeed Al Naboodah urged him to join Al Ahli but Magrao’s agent convinced him to join Dubai FC.
But he decided to make a return to the UAE following interest from clubs here. Another factor was his family wanted to stay back in the UAE instead of returning to Brazil. “It is a new challenge for me. It is a new club for me and I want to prove that I am up to the challenge. My ambitions remain the same. When I enter the stadium, I want to win games for my club. I will do my best to help Dubai FC. Dubai FC have big ambitions and I will try my best to achieve them,” Magrao said.
Magrao revealed that it was he who declined a contract renewal with Al Wahda. He also said it was unfair to put the blame on the foreign players for Al Wahda’s poor showing last season.
Al Wahda finished sixth in the Etisalat UAE Pro-League last season. Dubai FC have hired Rene Marsiglia to coach their team next season. The Frenchmen takes over from Egyptian Ayman Al Ramadi, whose contract was not renewed.
Marsiglia joins from French Ligue 1 club Nice. Dubai FC escaped the drop to finish 10th in the 12-team League last season.
