Heredity is defined as the genetic transmission of characteristics (like height, skin colour, diseases etc) from parent to offspring.
Lifestyle is a way of living that reflects his or her attitudes and values. Heredity and lifestyle are two very important factors which influence our well being, and the outer and inner persona of an individual.
There are many diseases or problems which can occur due to heredity, such as diabetes, sickle cell anaemia, cancer, thyroid, hypertension, autism, heart diseases, down syndrome, stress, hair loss, obesity, and so on, because it is a part of the genetic make-up.Heredity could contribute to diabetes and hypertension. But being aware and adopting a healthy lifestyle will go a long way in preventing the onset of these diseases.
Dr Abey Abraham, a specialist from DM Healthcare, said, “If one has a family history of diabetes, how much ever one tries to eliminate it, they will always be at risk of getting it. Hence they need to take extra care of their health. An improvement in their lifestyle with exercises and diet changes can definitely reduce the risk factor.”
With proper precautions, one might avoid some of the diseases which are passed on because of the genes. A good lifestyle is essential to develop good health. It is important to note the need to exercise daily and keep ourselves fit, and maintain a well-balanced diet. Good habits like drinking water at regular intervals and avoiding smoking, hard and soft drinks will prove beneficial.
