Dh500-1,000 fine for those who pluck flowers or sit on grass

If you are walking with a lady in Dubai and thought of giving her a flower, then you had better buy not pick it—for picking flowers involves Dh500-1,000 fine.

But flower-picking is not the only offence. If you decide to stop walking and have rest, then don’t sit on the grass or other green spots as this is another offence.

“We have a law stipulating that any one who picks flowers from gardens, parks and other public places will be fined between Dh500 and Dh1,000,” said Ahmed Abdul Kareem, head of the parks section at the Dubai Municipality.

“Offenders could also be made to pay for any damage they cause to greenery…our inspectors are always out watching for such offences…we planted these flowers and grass for aesthetic purposes and they cost us much money to keep them green through the year,” he told Albayan newspaper.

The paper said Abdul Kareem was reacting to reports that some people and companies pluck roses from public places to sell them. It quoted him as saying persons who see such offences can call the municipality at 800900.
