Moon sighting panel to meet on July 19

A committee to sight the crescent moon that marks the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan in the UAE for the current Hijri year 1433 was set up on Monday through a ministerial decree by Justice Minister Dr Hadif bin Jowan Al Dhahiri.
The committee, which is chaired by the minister himself, includes senior Awqaf (endowments) and judicial officials, religious counsellors and members of the astronomical society.
The verification committee affiliated to the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department will follow up the sighting of the moon in the central, eastern and western regions of the emirate of Abu Dhabi. The resolution urged all Shariah courts in the country to participate in the moon sighting and update the committee on their sightings.
In Riyadh, the Saudi Supreme Court has called on all Muslims in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to sight the crescent moon of Ramadan on Thursday evening.
According to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Supreme Court has called upon the general public to see the crescent of the blessed month of Ramadan by naked eyes or through binoculars to report to the nearest court and register their testimony, or report to the authority of the region’s governorate.
The Supreme Court also urged all Muslims to sight the crescent for the cooperation of all Muslims in righteousness and piety.
