Runners and fitness enthusiasts interested in taking part in the various events of the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2013 can register from today, event organisers said in a media release on Sunday.

Registration for the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2013 is available online only at www.dubaimarathon.org

The event also provides a category for companies — The Corporate Challenge.

The bank also said in its statement on Sunday that it had signed a three-year contract to extend its sponsorship of the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon until 2015. The marathon will be held on the January 25, with the start/finish line in Downtown Dubai in the shadow of the iconic Burj Khalifa building.

There will be four race categories — 42, 10 and 3 kilometres — and entry fees are $120, $60 and $15, respectively.

Standard Chartered has been the title sponsor of the Dubai Marathon since 2005. The race attracted 600 runners in 1990; this year’s race in January attracted almost 20,000 runners across the 42km, 10km and 3km distances.

Standard Chartered is title sponsor of nine marathons across four continents. In addition to underlining the Bank’s ‘Here for good’ brand promise, the sponsorships allow Standard Chartered to raise awareness about Seeing is Believing, its global sustainability programme to help tackle avoidable blindness.

This programme has already helped restore the sight of more than 2.5 million people globally, and the bank has committed to raise $100m by 2020. Last week it announced that $D50m has been raised so far.

In the 2012 Dubai race, nearly 1,000 Standard Chartered staff ran or volunteered to help raise funds and awareness of Seeing is Believing.
