Madrid survive a Real scare
Real Madrid survived a real scare in the second round of matches at the Dubai Indoor Football Championship as they squeezed past Egypt Stars 6-5 at the World Trade Centre.
Los Blancos fell 2-0 down early on as Ahmad Mohammad and Ahmad Abu Sreea got Egypt Stars off to a sensational start that left Real reeling on Tuesday evening. However, the Spanish outfit soon recovered through Jose Amavisca (2) and Alex Perez, only for Egypt Stars’ Khalid Beboo to level things up again at 3-3.
Nonetheless, the final whistle eventually came to end this tight tussle and the relief was palpable as Real’s players came off the five-a-side pitch.
Real’s arch-rivals Barcelona had significantly less difficulty in accounting for Nile Stars as they registered a convincing 8-2 victory.
Santiago ‘Santi’ Ezquerro netted a hat-trick and Gerard also got on the scoresheet as Barca – like their ‘El Clasico’ counterparts – moved another step closer to Thursday evening’s semi-finals.
It proved a miserable night all round for the regional, representative sides as Ajax Amsterdam thrashed UAE Stars 18-4, while AS Roma toppled Morocco Stars 7-2.
Yaser Mohammed (2), Bakheet Saad and Omar Ahmad found the Ajax net, yet they were unable to prevent a double-figure concession rate at the other end as the Dutch giants ran riot.
Michael Mols, Kiki Musampa and Wamberto were among their many scorers as Ajax pierced the UAE Stars’ defence at will.
Meanwhile, Massimo Agostini (2), Giampiero Maini (2), Alessio Scarchilli and Damiano Tommasi (2) were the chief architects of Roma’s comfortable win over Morocco Stars, who replied via Sufian Al Fatemy and Muad Al Sharkawi
