A Kuwaiti lawyer has called for the suspension of the entire Kuwait Airways fleet for safety reasons, a day after the government grounded five aircraft, it has been reported.
As part of a lawsuit, Hawra Al Habeeb called on the court to assign a team of experts to inspect the air worthiness of the national carrier’s 17-strong fleet.
“The malfunctions at Kuwait Airways planes pose a serious danger to passengers’ lives while the government has failed to take any measure,” Habeeb said in a statement.
Kuwait Airways chief and communications minister Salem Al Othaina said on Sunday the government has reached a decision to ground three to five ageing aircrafts for continuous malfunctions, adding that a decision to ground more plans was to be expected later.
The lawsuit and minister’s comments comes days after a Kuwait Airways flight from Kuwait to Jeddah, with 186 passengers onboard, was forced to make an emergency landing due to engine problems, AFP reported.
