Abu Dhabi Executive Council Approves ADEC Scholarship System

Abu Dhabi – June 17th, 2012:

 

Abu Dhabi Executive Council announced that Abu Dhabi Education council will be the regulatory authority for developing a scholarship system aiming to manage & control scholarships and study leaves within UAE and abroad. The EC also approved a budget increase of AED 197 m. to be spent over the coming four years on scholarship programs which help enhance UAE capabilities through provision of world-class higher education system and building local competencies that would meet labor market needs.

 

H.E. Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al-Khaili, ADEC Director General, said that the EC decision comes in line with Abu Dhabi Government Vision 2030 for developing an innovation-based economy through the expansion of the scholarship program and identifying its policies. He lauded the great support extended by UAE prudent leadership and their keenness to provide UAE students with the best educational opportunities at local as well as international levels. “The scholarship program aims to create a stronger alignment between the human capital resources and labor market requirements”, added Dr. Al-Khaili.

 

Mrs. Mona Majed Al-Mansouri, Division Manager of Guidance and Scholarships at ADEC said that pursuant to the EC decision, ADEC scholarship committee will develop a strategy and general policy proposals for scholarships, study requests and leaves submitted by all government bodies. “The committee will also develop scholarship-related regulations & decisions and countries, institutions of higher education, disciplines & majors required, terms & conditions, financial allowances, benefits, academic reports review & follow-up process, discontinuation, extension and recommendations”, added Al-Mansouri.

 

Al-Mansouri pointed out that the new decision will create a centralized and standardized system to manage scholarships, where ADEC will be responsible for managing all the academic programs, study leaves, general requirements for all Abu Dhabi Government employees.  ADEC will also be responsible for monitoring the scholars’ obligations after completion of study and obtaining their degree.

 

ADEC provides a comprehensive set of scholarship programs and study leaves and offers scholarships to 1840 students enrolled in various disciplines. ADEC local scholarship programs include Al Nokhba Scholarship Program, Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development scholarship program, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority Scholarship Program, Saadiyat Island’s Cultural District Scholarship Program, Study Leave Program for Abu Dhabi Government Staff, Study Leave Program for SEHA Staff and Nibras Scholarship Program. Moreover, ADEC provides a number of summer internship programs such as Al-Nokhba summer internship program, Mubadala Aerospace internship program, summer internship program at L’institut d’etudes politiques and Pembroke College Summer Internship Program.

 

Registration was opened for local higher education scholarship program on June 3rd and will continue till June 21st, 2012. This program is available to UAE Nationals who have scored a minimum of 85% in G12. Current university students who have completed 30 credit hours while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 are also eligible for to applying to join the program. The scholarship programs aim to attract students interested in pursuing degrees in electronic, electrical, chemical and mechanical engineering, economics, accounting, finance and medicine.
