Professional opportunities in geospatial servicessector revealed to United Arab Emirates University students

Khaled Al Melhi, CEO of Bayanat, welcomedthe delegation from UAEU Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Geographyand Urban Planning Department led by Dr. Naeema Al Hosani, Assistant Professorof Cartography. The group attended a full day of presentations delivered byBayanat’s Department Directors and Heads. Among the topics covered wereTopographic and Hydrographic Surveying, Aerial Photography and Surveying, MapProduction and Reading, and Geospatial Services.
Al Melhi alsoencouraged the young UAE Nationals in attendance to pursue careers ingeospatial services to help achieve the development goals of Abu Dhabi underits Vision 2030 plan. Bayanat’s officials shed light on its highlysuccessful internal Emiratization programme that has helped the company securea leading industry position and post one of the highest Emiratization rates inAbu Dhabi. Bayanat reported a few months ago that it has achieved a solid 75per cent level of Emiratization.
“We wantto motivate more of our youths, especially UAE Nationals, to consider buildingcareers in our field. Geospatial services play very important social andeconomic roles and would benefit from broader participation from our young andtalented Emiratis. We are keen at Bayanat to support our national educationalinstitutions in further exploring and understanding the applications and benefits of geospatial services and encourage more youths to take up careers inthat field to expedite the development initiatives of Abu Dhabi and the entireUAE,” said Al Melhi.
Bayanat forMapping & Surveying Services was formed in 2008 as a commercial spinoff ofthe UAE Armed Forces' Military Survey Department. Itsexpertise covers Geodesy and Field Surveying, Aerial Survey and ImageProcessing, Hydrographic Surveying, Spatial Data Management, Cartography andVisualization, and Printing services. Bayanat is wholly-owned by MubadalaDevelopment Company, an investment arm of the Abu Dhabi Government.
