Wisdom, Titans win

At halftime, Sharjah’s Rising Stars were a regular 2-point ‘basket’ ahead for a narrow but well worked out 33-31 standing after trailing 13-17 in first quarter play thanks to some excellent assists and rebound takes in defence.

 

Thereafter the challenge from the underdogs was still on as they trailed 55-56 at the end of the third quarter against the more fancied and seasoned Wisdom Academy A in the week’s round of the Indian Basketball league for the Admiral J. trophy.

By the time the final hooter was sounded, the final take read an 80-70 on the scoreboard in favour of Wisdom who topped Pool B action and a place in the knockout phase (semis).

Wisdom’s Jean, Kunal and Rohit combined well to outscore the Rising Stars 25-14 in the last quarter. Jean top scored for the As with 16 points followed by Subin 12 and Kunal 11 points. For Rising Stars Abhil Dev top scored with 26 points followed by Sarhan’s 19.

Hoopers, Dubai, playing without a regular coach went down fighting against Blue Rhine Eagles who entered the last four stage, 49-58.

In the neck-n-neck match, Blue Rhine led the first quarter 19-16 and led 30-29 at half time.

Both the teams fought for the upper hand in the third quarter in which Hoopers led 45-44 at the end of the third quarter.

Hoopers with a better bench strength fumbled in the last quarter in which Eagles scored 14-4 to register victory. Usman top scored for Blue Rhine Eagles with 21 points followed by Kevin on 20.

City Fives, Dubai also reached the semi-finals after beating last year’s runners up Nucaf Beatrice, Dubai 71-53. Ginesh top scored with 19 points followed by Lijo and Sushil who netted 17 points each for the Fives. Titans got the better off Street Legends, 58-33 to top Pool A. Sunil Savio top scored for Titans with 15 points.

In the semi-finals of the men’s division of the multi-division Indian Basketball Society organised championship, Titans meet Blue Rhine Eagles and The Wisdom Academy A team take on City Fives, Dubai.

The inaugural boys under 19 league Emirates National School (ENS), Sharjah outplayed The Millennium School, Dubai 51-13 to reach the semi-finals. Aamir top scored for ENS with 14 points.

Local powerhouse Delhi Private School (DPS), Sharjah also reached the last four phase here beating Dubai Modern High school 38-22. Karun Kumar Mehra topped with 11 points for DPS-Sharjah.

ENS will meet DPS-Sharjah and NIMS-Sharjah run into Our Own High School, Wa’arqa in the under 19 boys’ semifinals.

DPS, Sharjah topped the women’s league when they outplayed Stars-Dubai 49-19 in their last league encounter.

Najat Abdul Wahab top scored for DPS-Sharjah with 20 points followed by Humaira Tasneem’s timely 17. DPS run into Our Own English High School, Dubai and Stars meet Manipal Falcons in the women’s semis. NIMS-Sharjah downed ENS-Sharjah 43-27 to reach the semi-finals from Pool B of the under 13 boys league. Safir’s 15 points and Zaman Ahmed’s 10 points powered NIMS-Sharjah.

Nucaf DPS-Dubai beat The Model School, Abu Dhabi 52-40 in a high scoring league match.

Ishan Shoukat accounted for a massive 36 points for DPS-Dubai.

Model School led the first half 31-15. In the second half DPS-Dubai out scored The Model, Abu Dhabi 37-9. Suhail’s final tally for Model was an impressive 24.

In another league encounter in the same division, DPS-Sharjah beat Dubai Modern High School 41-26 in a Pool A league match. Harjot Singh top scored for DPS with 18 points.

In the under 13 girls division, Our Own, Dubai defeated DPS-Sharjah 41-22 and Dubai Modern High School downed DPS-Dubai 28-12.
