A way to a healthier life is just a few clicks away
The Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD), the regulatory body of the healthcare sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, announced today the launch of the new Weqaya SMS and Email service, allowing faster and easier accessibility to screening results. The screening results are a part of the Weqaya initiative to screen all Abu Dhabi nationals for their individual risk of suffering from diabetes or cardiovascular diseases now or in the future.
The Weqaya programme has screened 97% of all Abu Dhabi nationals over the age of 18. So far, 62,000 Weqaya report cards have been sent, informing each person of their individual health levels, along with a list of recommendations on how that can reduce their health risks. The report card also provides a PIN number, which activates a personalized account on the Weqaya website, www.weqaya.ae.
The new SMS and Email service allows the individual to quickly and easily obtain their PIN number and activate their account from the Weqaya website, prior to receiving their report card and individual PIN by mail. All that is needed to activate the account is to visit www.weqaya.ae, and with a few clicks select the option to receive a pin number via the SMS and Email service. The individual will then be asked to provide; a Thiqa ID, Family Book Number, Date of Birth, and Contact Details, and will be sent their PIN by SMS or Email moments later.
Once the account is activated, the site provides a detailed description of the patients health level and ways to tackle any health issues they may have. The site provides a wealth of knowledge and insights that, within a small amount of time, can dramatically improve the health and wellbeing of our community. The website provides information for everyone in the community regardless of their health status, Weqaya aims to encourage those individuals already participating in healthy lifestyles to continue and seek ways of further improving, while also assisting those in need of medical attention to take their first steps towards a healthier and more productive lifestyle.
Just as people read the newspaper daily to understand more about the world, we want our patients to read their personalised Weqaya site to understand more about their Health. Following the suggestions and analysis found on the website will help patients lead a better life and make informed health choices, said Dr. Jamal Al Mutawa Section Head, Public Health Eastern Region Office.
Our population is suffering from grave health conditions that are easily preventable. We urge citizens to log onto the Weqaya website, activate their account, and begin taking the necessary steps towards a healthier and happier future, he added.
Over two thirds of the Emirati population are by international standards, overweight or obese and around 1 in 5 Emirati adults have diabetes. Even amongst those who do not have diabetes, , a further 1 in 4 are at high risk of developing diabetes over the next five years. With the UAEs leading cause of death being cardiovascular disease, simple changes, made early enough, such as daily exercise, healthier food choices, and smoking cessation will greatly reduce these risks.
Weqaya patients can also call the dedicated Weqaya helpline on 800 61116 to set up an appointment with a doctor to discuss their results further.
