Zayed Tennis Cup kicks off in Fujairah
The Dh250,000 Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan International Lawn Tennis Cup Championship kicked off at Le Meridien Al Aqah on Tuesday evening.
The Championship is being held under the auspices of Shaikh Rashid bin Hamad Al Sharqi, president, Fujairah Lawn tennis Club, who is also Chairman of the Fujairah Culture and Information Authority.
A Press conference on Wednesday with Patrick Antaki, general manager, Le Meridien Al Aqah Hotel and Resort, who is also head of the organising committee, heading the proceedings.
Others attending the Press conference included Khalid Al Ali, championship manager an CEO of Fujairah Tennis Club; Salah Al Baramli, secretary, UAE Tennis Association; referee Leith Al Ani; Abdul Aziz Al Afkham, representative of Fujairah Insurance Company; and Adnan Al Jallaf, representative of from the Fujairah Free Zone Authority.
Sponsors who attended the Press event included a representative from Prince Sport Kits.
“We are happy to host the event for the eighth time under the title Zayed Tennis cup, and are very proud of the partnership and cooperation with the Fujairah Tennis club and the UAE Tennis Association”, said Antaki.
Ali, said, “The name of the championship is dear to everybody, therefore we are expecting an overwhelming success.”
Baramali announced the list of the players which includes the title holder Peter Wisely, who was rated 72 in the world when he retired in 2005.
Omar Behroozian, the UAE national team player expressed his willingness to continue the achievements he has made in the event.
