Dhahi Khalfan visits DM, interacts with Children
DUBAI - Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, has visited Children’s Council and interacted with children after he was invited for a discussion on its new initiative titled “Schools Without Carbon’ to be fielded in recent future.
The Council is holding deliberations with various decision makers ,government authorities and experts in a bid to seek best mechanism to launch the green initiative and finally to get it implemented effectively in the schools of Dubai, said sources from Dubai Municipality, who patrons the Children’s Council.
After watching the details of the proposed initiative by children, Khalfan said “ I really appreciate the initiative. This indicates that our nation highly values
He further said that Dubai Police has launched many initiatives that coincides in style and target with those framed by the Children’s Council like the “School Without Carbon”. He also suggested the representatives of Children Council to have a meeting with Humaid Al Qattami, Minister for Education, seeking his support to change the fuels used in school vehicles to bio-gases which may reduce the rate of carbon emission to the environment.
He met with Eng. Hussein Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, and discussed on the implementation of the new initiative.
Basically adopted the idea from New York city , Children’s Council has planned the “Schools Without Carbon” to be implemented in all the educational institutions of the Emirate of Dubai. As the first step it has organized theme presentations in 70 government schools of Dubai. The main focus of the campaign is to educate the school authorities and drivers to turn off the vehicle engines completely when not on move especially at school premises. According to the office bearers of Children Council, in new York city a driver can’t operate the engine when not on move more than three minutes. After the enforcement of this law it is reported that carbon emission rate in the school premises has been considerably reduced.
Children council is preparing to convene workshops, extensive lectures face-to face with drivers, students and driving institutes, in order to make the initiative win the targets.
