HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime

Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the Mohammed bin Rashid Al

Maktoum Solar Park at the start of 2012. With an expected 1,000MW capacity

and costing AED 12 billion, it is located in Seih Al Dahal on the Dubai to Al

Ain Road. This supports the vision of His Highness towards promoting the

sustainable future development for the Emirate of Dubai, and the initiatives

launched by His Highness to build a “green sustainable economy.” It also plans

for the preservation of natural resources while protecting the environment from

pollution.

DEWA will manage and operate the overall development of the Mohammed bin

Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park as part of the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy

2030.

“This study is a key step in the implementation of the energy diversification

strategy adopted by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, in which solar energy

is being set up to become part of Dubai’s energy portfolio. The strategy aims to

maintain the security of supply in the Emirate of Dubai,” said HE Saeed

Mohammed Al Tayer MD & CEO of DEWA.

“The scope of the study included the best practices that are in line with DEWA’s

strategy covering best suited plant configuration, capacities, and technologies,

and a study for developing the entire Solar Power Park of 1,000MW of

generation capacity,” added His Excellency:

His Excellency also expressed his satisfaction regarding the number of bids

received from the international organizations in this vital field. Whereas, this

can clearly reflect investors’ trust to invest in such huge projects adopted and

supported by the Government of Dubai.
