Esmod Dubai, the leading French fashion school in the region, has revealed that the fashion designing skills and creativity of its students were well showcased during the recent celebrations held in Paris to mark the 170-year anniversay of Esmod International. In fact the elegant black and gold dress worn by the wife of Esmod International President Mrs. Mary Nino during the event was designed by an Esmod Dubai graduate Wid Abdullah Rehaimi, who had recently won the fashion design award in the New Couture category in Dubai.

The celebration outlined the various innovations developed by Esmod founder Alexis Lavigne, including the souple measuring tape, the couture mannequins and the first ever pattern making method, which were all showcased at an exhibition held at the Gallerie Joyce in the Palais Royal in Paris. This was followed by a high-profile international Esmod fashion show, for which 17 schools, including Esmod Dubai, were chosen and asked to design 10 dresses each to make a total of 170 creations that were all presented on the catwalk.

Esmod Dubai, which was given the theme ‘Start’ as a design inspiration, made a significant impact at the show through the creations of third year students Kay Li, Maimoona Harsha, Sabeen Mughees, Renuka Gandi and Budoor Abdul Qader. Budoor, an Emarati, also designed a special dress to mark the occasion.

Tamara Hostal, Director and Founder of Esmod Dubai said, “It is an honour for us to be an integral part of one of the most prestigious and oldest international fashion institutes. Importantly, Esmod Dubai, through its commitment to quality and excellence, has perfectly complemented the stature of the Esmod brand of fashion education. This was evident through the major interest generated by Mrs. Nino’s dress designed by our student, and also the positive feedback we received for the other Esmod Dubai creations that were showcased during the event.”

The anniversary celebrations concluded at the Paris City Hall in the presence of Mrs. Lyne Cohen-Solal, Deputy Mayor of Paris, who awarded City of Paris medals to the Directors of Esmod Germany, Esmod Norway, Esmod Korea, and Esmod Tunisia - the oldest schools of the network which were founded 25 years ago - in recognition of their contribution to the development of French fashion abroad and the genuine Esmod know-how in their respective countries.

Esmod Dubai is the only French Fashion Institution fully dedicated to professional fashion training  in the Middle East. It is the Dubai campus of Esmod International, which was established in Paris in 1841 by the French tailor, inventor, and innovator Alexis Lavigne. Esmod is recognised as the first institution to codify couture by inventing tools still being used by today’s designers, such as the bust mannequin and the soft metric ribbon. On September 25th 2011, Esmod Dubai will resume its popular Fashion Design & Pattern Making Diploma program, as well as workshops in fashion design, fashion make up, fashion photography and perfume discovery.
